Intro to PRE-PIANO--Music Makers: At Home and Around the World (Ages 4 & 5 Years)
11 week session with a 12th free week for a make up class
This 35 min. class prepares the student to graduate to Pre-Piano 1
Developed to build attention and self-expression, activities include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, and graphic notation games. We cultivate the child’s musical development through songs, tonal (solfege) and rhythm patterns, and manipulative floor games. Beat competency and pitch matching are both emphasized in this semester. Keyboard geography is introduced.
Fun family packets including wonderful music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process.
PRE-PIANO 1--Music Makers: At Home (Ages 4 & 5 Years) 11 week session with a 12th free week for a make up class.
This class cultivates the child's musical development through songs, tonal and rhythm patterns, poetry and stories, movement activities, listening games, instrumental play and manipulative games. Rudimentary music skills such as pitch matching, beat competency, ensemble development, and music notation are developed using themes taken from the child's home environment and natural surroundings. Caregivers participate.
PRE-PIANO 2--Music Makers: Around the World (Ages 5 & 6 Years) 11 week session with a 12th free week for a make up class
This class is designed to accommodate the 5- and 6-year-old and is a perfect follow-up for children who have completed Music Makers: At Home. In this class, children explore the music, dances and stories of different cultures. As always, the key ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, lots of movement, and tonal and rhythm patterns. Through echoing and playing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases that they can recognize aurally and visually, leading to an understanding of musical notation. Caregivers join in last fifteen minutes or participate the whole time. This class is an excellent preparation for studying piano in Music Makers: At the Keyboard!
Music Makers: At the Keyboard I (Minimum age: 6 or entering First Grade) 24 week session - Year One
The culminating step on the pathway to music literacy, the three-year Music Makers piano program is designed to teach the children to play the songs they've been hearing, singing, and dancing to throughout the years of early childhood. An extension of the work done in Music Makers: Around the World, this sixty minute class follows a very sequential approach to building piano skills and understanding musical notation as set forth in the books, Music Makers: At the Keyboard. Parents are required to participate in final fifteen minutes of class, and encouraged to attend the entire class whenever possible.
